Searching for Antique Headboards
If you do not have the money to spend on the artistic decorated bed, then you get an ordinary one and work on it. With a custom-made bed you can save a bit of money and it will guarantee an unique piece. It could also be an old bed that you get really cheap in the market. You can give the old bed that you have in the house a turn around. The will you a whole new look. The headboard will bring a new fresh appearance to the bedroom. Do-it-yourself could be the best choice if you really want to save some money. But sometimes a good carpenter can get the job done at affordable prices. In fact, most people do it in their house to clear the monotonous look that is bred by familiarity. A little touch makes everything appear new. Some tips for the process just to make your way easier:

Removing the paint from the headboard

As most of the antique headboards will come with previous paint or coat that will be ruined, you will need to remove and work on the surface before attaching the antique piece to the bed. Work on the headboard with sand paper until the surface gets rough enough to hold a new coat of paint. This process will generate wood dust that has to be removed from the headboard before you start with re-painting phase. When the surface isn't smooth anymore that's good enough for the paint to adhere. Just get your favorite patterns and spicy it up!

How to recover the antique headboards look

In case you're trying to make your antique headboards look older or the bed itself, crackle has always been an excellent solution. You will get better results using a small brush and no rush in the process. Crackle should be available in your closer paint store. It cracks on any underlying coats of paints and gives it a cracked appearance. No need to apply the product evenly, you can spread the crackle over certain areas only. You should move the brush in many irregular strokes. Almost an hour is needed for the coat to dry up, after that you should apply the paint gently. This is then followed up by the paint. As you will notice, each layer starts to crackle creating a lovely finish Once a coat begins to crack you should apply more paint on that area, just leave it rest. as we said before this is really efficient when it comes to restoring antiques headboards or any antique in general. Give the paint a day to dry up.

Sweeping the glaze

Once the paint has dried wipe off the glaze; you can use an old clothe to do this. You should be keen not to wipe everything off. You should leave some of it on the edges. The paint that spills over is of some aesthetic value too. This can work well with a headboard that has got some decorations inscribed on it. This creates special attributes even on a simple board that you have. There's a preference with dark colors since the glaze does not mix well with bright colors. Antique Headboards usually are dark pieces.
